Custom Products in the Rep Portal: More Flexibility for Shopify Sales Teams

A practical update for sales reps handling special requests, one-off items and fast-moving orders

Not every order follows the catalogue.

A rep is on a call with a wholesale customer. The customer wants to add a special item that is not listed in Shopify yet. Or maybe they need a one-time charge, a custom bundle, or a product variation that has not been added to the store.

In many teams, that small request becomes a delay.

Someone has to message the admin team. Someone has to update the product in Shopify. The rep has to wait. And the order that could have been completed in a few minutes gets stuck.

That is exactly the problem this update solves.

CSS Sales Team now supports custom products inside the rep portal.

With this feature, reps can add a custom product while creating an order. They do not need to wait for the item to be added to the regular Shopify catalogue first.

Inside the rep portal, there is a new Add Custom Product button under the product selection area. Once clicked, the rep can enter the product title, price, quantity, tax setting, whether it is a physical product, and its weight.

After that, the custom product is added to the order and included in the subtotal like any other item.

This makes the order process much smoother for teams managing B2B orders and day-to-day Shopify sales.

It also keeps reps moving. They can add the item, edit it if something changes, remove it before submission, and continue with the normal order flow without breaking their process.

The same flexibility extends to the rep cart as well, which helps when building more complex orders.

What makes this update more useful is that it does not stop at order creation.

Custom products also appear in Sales Order Details for draft, unpaid, and paid orders. That means teams can still view and edit them when needed. They are also included in the printed invoice layout, which helps merchants keep order records clear and consistent.

On the admin side, custom products are also included in the commission module. Admins can apply the same default commission logic used for physical products, whether that is percentage-based or fixed-value commission. If no commission is set, the custom product is treated as zero commission.

This is a simple feature, but it solves a real problem.

For sales teams, flexibility often matters more than perfection in the catalogue. By supporting custom products inside the rep portal, the CSS Sales Team gives merchants a more practical way to handle special requests, close orders faster, and keep the sales process moving.
